METHODOLOGY / VERSION 0.1

Every number needs a path back to its source.

Our workflow is designed around traceability, separated states and explicit unknowns.

01

Discover

Identify events in official notices, international organizations and research.

02

Verify

Link each claim, figure and date to its original source.

03

Model

Record event phase, case confirmation and claim status separately.

04

Review

Check definitions, unknowns, map precision and update dates manually.

05

Publish

Release through event pages, the update log and data files together.

Three dimensions, not one label

eventPhase describes where an event is in its lifecycle; caseConfirmation describes evidentiary confirmation; claimStatus describes who made a claim and whether it was disputed or retracted.

Source hierarchy

  1. Original notices from health authorities and laboratories
  2. Official summaries from WHO, CDC and peers
  3. Peer-reviewed research
  4. Reputable media used for context

About the totals

Homepage totals summarize this dataset only and do not claim global completeness. Historical estimates are not added to modern reported cases. Unknown values remain null and do not enter totals when displayed as N/A.

Map precision

Coordinates represent approximate public-report locations—not patient addresses, exposure zones or risk boundaries. Each event retains a locationPrecisionKm field.
